I’ve always tried to go and support my local team Whyteleafe as much as I can growing up, my first game being a 3-0 home defeat to Kingstonian in the FA Umbro Trophy 4th Round way back in 6th February 1999 when I was just 6 years old, can’t tell you much about it unfortunately. My second game being 8 months later which just happens to be one of the most famous in Whyteleafe’s history, 30th October 1999 saw Leafe play in the 1st Round proper of the FA Cup for the first time ever against then league opponents Chester City with the game finishing 0-0 (Chester won 3-1 in the replay). That game also saw a record attendance of 2,164 at Church Road which is rather impressive!
In recent years, due to a mixture of work commitments/following Charlton home & away and travelling, I’ve only been able to make a few Whyteleafe games a season.
The coronavirus pandemic has meant I haven’t worked my usual job since February, haven’t been able to travel as often as I was and as fans aren’t allowed at “elite club level” haven’t been able to watch Charlton so its actually allowed me to attend all but one Whyteleafe game so far in the 2020/21 season!
